What are LAVENDER tubes for? CBC, sedimentation rate, hemoglobin A1C
What are PINK tubes for? Type and Scrren, Type and Cross, RH, antibody screen
What are Gray tubes for? Lactate
What is improper collection? Improper handling, improper draw techniques, incorrect test tubes, mislabeling
What are problems caused by improper techniques? Inaccurate results, problems with treatment, contamination, hemolysis, tests that can't be run.
Patient complications due to improper technique? Loss of consciousness, anxiety, bruising, hematoma, nerve injury or any injury to other structures.
