An aspirin like compound with anti-inflammatory action. Aminosalicylates
This is used to treat chrons disease and ulcerative colitis, exact mechanism on how it works is unknown. Aminosalicylates
Lomotil (trade name); Diphenoxylate with atropine (generic) symptomatic relief of acute diarrhea
Dry skin and mucous membranes, nausea, constipation, light headedness Lomotil (Diphenoxylate w/atropine)- adverse reactions
Lomotil (Diphenoxylate w/atropine) dosing 2 tablets orally, then 1 tablet after each loose stool (not to exceed 8 tablets/day)
Relief of constipation, prevention of straining during BM Colace, (exlax stool softner, Modane soft, Surfak liquidgels) Generic:stool sofeners/surfactants docusate (dioctyl DDS)
Adverse reactions diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, bloating, flatulence, cramping, perianal irritation, fainting. Colace, (exlax stool softner, Modane soft, Surfak liquidgels) Generic:stool sofeners/surfactants docusate (dioctyl DDS)

Anti-diarrheal used to treat diarrhea and is chemically related to opiod drugs. Lomotil
Anti-diarrheal chemically related to opiod drugs, decreases peristalsis; may have sedative and euphoric effects, but no analgesic activity. Lomotil
Abuse of this drug is reduced due to unpleasant adverse effects such as dry mouth; Lomotil is combined with atropine (a cholinergic blocking drug) because of potential dependence.
Pt whose diarrhea is associated with organisms that canheam the intestinal mucosa (ecoli, salmonella, & shigella spp) Contraindication of lomotil and should not take it if these problems exist.
pts with pseudomembranous colitis, ab pain of unknown origin, and obstructive jaundice. Should not take anti-diarrheals (such as lomotil)
Children under 2 years of age Should not take anti-diarrheals (such as lomotil)
This drug used cautiously with pt with severe hepatic impairment, IBD and should be used cautiously during pregnancy or lactation. Lomotil (anti-diarrheal)
Peri-colace combination drug: Contain docusate sodium and standardized senna concentrate – a stool softener plus a stimulant laxative
Premarin estrogen hormone- It is used for vaginal atrophy and vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause.
Used to relieve moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms of menopause (flushing, sweating) Premarin
May be used after a hysterectomy as an ERT (estrogen replacement therapy) Premarin
Bacterim (AKA semptrum): trimethropin & sulfamethaoxazole (TMP-SMZ) Used for Acute UTI's, shigellosis, and acute otitis media.
Macrodantin Used for Acute bacterial UTI's
Ditropan Used for overactive bladder neurogenic bladder
Pyridium Used to treat pain associated with UTI (lower genitourinary tract)
Sulfonamides Used as an antibacterial or they are active against bacteria.
Azulfidine UTI, acute otitis media, hemophius influenzae, and meningococcal meningitis
May cause skin and urine to turn orange-yellow Azulfidine
Bactrim Used to treat acute bacterial UTI, acute otitis media, traveler's diarrhea due to E-coli
Headache, GI disturbance, allergic skin reactions, hematologic changes, Stevens-johnson syndrome, anorexia, glossitis Side effects Bactrim
Cipro Treatment of infections due to susecptible microorganisms

Ampicillin Semi-synthetic: Infections due to susceptible microorganisms; meningococcal meningitis, septicemia
Glossitis, stomatitis, gastritis, furry tongue, nausea, vomitting, diarrhea, rash, fever, pain at injection site, hypersensitivity reactions, hematopoietic changes Side effects of ampicillin
Zosyn Semi-synthetic: Infections due to susceptible microorganisms; meningococcal meningitis, septicemia
Side effects of ampicillin Glossitis, stomatitis, gastritis, furry tongue, nausea, vomitting, diarrhea, rash, fever, pain at injection site, hypersensitivity reactions, hematopoietic changes
ancef Used to treat infections due to susceptible micorooganisms; peri-operative prophylaxis
Side effects of ancef Nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, hypersensitivity reactions, superinfection, nephrotoxicity, headache, stevens johnson sndrome, pseudomenmbranous colitis.
Unisom classification Narcotic antitussive, Anticholinergic, Nonselective ethanolamine
Unisom uses Sleep aide;seasonal allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis and allergic conjunctivitis; temporary relief of runny nose and sneezing caused by common cold;
Darvocet Combination opiod-analgesic: propoxyphene and acetaminophen; Darvocet is used to relieve mild to moderate pain with or without fever
oxycodone CNS Agents; Analgesics; Opiate Agonists;
dilaudid AKA hydromorphone; Opioid. Primary Uses: Analgesia, antitussive (any medicine used to suppress or relieve coughing)
Demerol Opioid analgesics Duration 2-3 hrs Dose 25 mg/1;narcotic pain relievers. It is similar to morphine. It works by dulling the pain perception center in the brain.
Vicodin is a combination of Hydrocodone and Acetaminophen. Hydrocodone belongs to a group of drugs called narcotic pain relievers.
