What are the functions of the lymphatic system? Drain excess interstitial fluid, transport dietary lipids, and carry out immune responses
What are the primary lymphatic organs? Red bone marrow, thymus
What are the two types of immunity? Innate immunity and Adaptive Immunity
Respiration the process of taking in oxygen and expelling carbon dioxide from the lungs and respiratory tract.
What is cilia? tiny, hairlike structures that filter inhaled air to trap dust and other particles
What is the epiglottis? a special leaf-like piece of cartilage that closes the opening into the larynx during swallowing
Target cells/hormone receptors Cells will not respond to a hormone unless it contains the appropriate receptor
Define diabetes mellitus Impaired blood glucose homeostasis
Adrenocorticotropic (ACTH) function and location Stimulates activity of the cortex of the adrenal gland which then produces the "stress hormone", cortisol (anterior pituitary)
Thyroid stimulating Hormone (TSH) function and location Stimulates production and release of thyroid hormone (anterior pituitary)
