How can theories be used in research? to generate research, as a framework, and to test research
What is theory-generating research? when the purpose of research study is to explore a phenomenon, identify and describe concepts, and develop a theory
What is theory as a framework? data's collected about concepts/ideas in the theory; research describes relationship between concepts in the theory

What is theory-testing research? a hypothesis is designed based on the theory, research is intended to evaluate whether the theory is correct or usable in practice
