Traditional Chinese | involves practices such as acupuncture used commonly in US, most for pain . acupressure, herbs, massage ,and qi gong |
Chiropractic | based on the belief that illness is a result of a neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction. Treatment: manual adjustment and manipulation of the vertebral column and the limbs. Goal is to remove interference with the nerve function so the body ca heal itself |
Homeopathic | like cures like; tiny doses of substance that create the symptoms of disease in a healthy person will relieve those symptoms of a sick person . ( "vaccine") |
Naturopathic | primilary uses natural therapies such as nutrition, herbs, hydrotherapy, counseling, physical medicine, and homeopathy to treat disease, promote healing and prevent illness |
American Indian | community-based system with rituals and practice such as sweat lodge, herbal remedies, the medicine wheel. the sacred hoop the "sing" and shamanistic healing |
Ostopathic | emphasizes there interrelationships of the body's nerves, muscles, bones and organs. Involves treating the whole person, recognizes the body ability to heal itself, and stresses the importance of diet , exercise, and fitness with a focus of prevention |
Herbal therapy | using herbs to heal; can aid and healing but can also cause harm |
Relaxation therapy | progressive muscle relaxation(alternately tensing and relaxation of muscles), guided imagery(using mental images to promote physical healing or changes in attitudes and behaviors ), and biofeedback (way of monitoring and controlling tiny metabolic changes |
