10. What controls the plasma levels of calcium? - Parathyroid gland
11. What is a Goiter? - An abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland caused by a tumor, lack of iodine in the diet.
12. What is the purpose of the parathyroid hormone? - Low calcium levels in the blood stimulate parathyroid hormone secretion.
13. How does the parathyroid hormone (PTH) work on the kidney? - It increases the reabsorption of calcium and magnesium from the kidney tubules. - Accelerates the elimination of phosphorus in the urine.
14. If calcium in the blood is elevated, what happens to the calcitonin concentration? - The calcitonin concentration is increased. - Strongly inhibits bone-resorbing activity of osteoclasts.
15. What is hypoglycemia effect with exercise in diabetic people? What is not a beneficial effect for people with hypoglycemia (rights answer, which one is not the right answer is wrong.) - Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
16. Values that meet the diagnostic threshold for diabetes. - Fasting blood glucose greater than or equal to 126 mg/ dL
17. Type 2 DM symptoms except... - Dysuria
18. Compare hyperglycemic and ketoacidosis reactions. - Shaking - Sweating
19. What does glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) results mean? - It shows what a person's average blood glucose level was for the 2 to 3 months before the test.
20. What is a complication of severe hypothyroidism? - Myxedema coma
21. What do you teach a patient who had a transsphenoidal hypophysectomy? - The removal of the pituitary gland. - Smell diminished. - Can’t brush their teeth.
22. What meds not to give patients with adrenal insufficiency. - You can give anything except IV.
