Cerebrum Largest Part of the Brain
Psychobiology The study of the biological foundations of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral processes.
Hypothalamus regulates what? appetite, temperature, blood pressure, thirst, and circadian rhythms, temperature
Pons Part of the brainstem
Medulla Connects the spinal cord and pons.
Medulla is responsible for what? heart rate, BP, respiration, and reflexes like swallowing, sneezing, coughing.
Limbic System AKA "emotional brain" is associated with what? with feelings of fear and anxiety; anger, rage, and aggression; love, joy, and hope, Sexuality and social behavior
Neurotransmitter chemicals stored in the axon terminal of neurons.

Electrical impulses cause what? release of neurotransmitters into synaptic cleft
Sympathetic -Dominant in stressful situations - “Fight or Flight” -Increases heart rate and respirations -Blood shunted to major organs
Parasympathetic -Dominant in "relaxed" situations -Normal heart rate and promotes elimination.

What are the common side effects of anti-depressants?? dry mouth, sexual dysfunction, sedation, and nausea
