What is a nsg consideration when taking digoxin? Check pulse for 1 min; do not give is less than 70
What is used for post-op vomitting? Zofran
What is the classification of Zofran? Antimetic
What do you need to monitor when giving Zofran? Liver, electrolytes, I&O
What classification is baclofen? Antispasticity; muscle relaxant
What is baclofen used in peds? hiccups, increase mobility
What are the s/e for baclofen? dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, weakness
What form does baclofen take? PO or implanted
What classification is DDAVP? Antidiarretic hormone
What is DDVAP used for in peds? bedwetting, Diabetes isipidus, hemophylia; decrease urine output and bleeding tome
What are the s/e for DDVAP/ Urinary retention, headache, drowsiness, increase or decrease BP, increase HR, abd. cramps, nasal irritation
What would you monitor for when giving DDVAP? Daily weight, I&O, BP, HR, electrolyte
What classification is prednisone? Corticosteriods
What is the IV form of prednisone? Sulumedrol
What is prednisone used for in peds? Asthamn, kidney disease, chemo; depresses the immune system
What are the S/E for prednisone? hyperglycemia, cushing syndrome (moon face), retain fluids, hyperactive mood swing
What is important when giving a steriod? To ween the dose and monitor EVERYTHING
What would you give a child with a fever and mild pain? tylenol
When would you give aspirin to a child? NEVER; due to Reye syndrome
What med is used for sedation during a pre-op procedure? Chloral hydrate
What is the S/E for chloral hydrate? resp depression, aspiration, liver intoxicity
What is the classification for procardia? CCC
What is procardia used for in peds? high bp
What are the s/e for procardia bradycardia, dizziness, cough, headache, high bp, hypotension, liver toxicity
what is the fasted method for procardia? Sublingual injection
What classification is ditropan? Bladder antispasic
What is ditropan used in peds? bedwetting, spina bifinda, muscular dystrophy
what are s/e for ditropan? urinary retention, decrease urine, constipation, increase HR, drowsiness, insomnia, weakness, blurred vision, imbalance electrolyte
What classification is Zosyn Antibiotic
what is a nsg consideration when giving zosyn? Do no use on Penicillin allergy
What differentiate rocephin with other antibiotic? Longer half life so can be given for 24 hours (one shot)
What med would you give with TB, menigeal-coxycal meningitis, or for close encounter with ppl r/t to pt Rifampin
What is important about rifampin that needs to communicated with the family? It is red-orange and will excrete red-orange
What is the difference in s/e with vancomycin and gentamcycin? Vanco has red-man syndrome (red head, neck,and itchy)
What med would you give for MRSA? Vanco
What are the common s/e for antibiotics? Nepro-toxic, otto-toxic
How long does it take to give an antibiotic like vanco? One hour
What med would you give if the pt gets red-man syndrome? Benadrly
what med would you give for chicken pox, herpes, or a viral infection? Acyclovir
what forms does acyclovir take? PO, IV, topical
what is an NSG consideration when giving an antiviral like acyclovir? IV fluids to stay well hydrated
What are S/E for acyclovir? Nepro-toxic and thrompopenia
What med would you give with asthma? Albuterol (ventolin)
what s/e are in albuterol? tacycardia, hyperactivity
What forms come in albuterol? PO, puffer, neubulizer
