Anaphylactic Reaction Allergic reaction to a foreign substance (Anaphylaxis)
Antibody Protein produced in response to an antigen
Antigen Substance that induces the formation of antibodies
Ecchymosis Collection of blood underneath the skin caused by leakage from small vessels (Bruise)
Hematoma Collection of blood, usually clotted, caused by a break in a blood vessel
Petechiae Pinpoint, flat, purplish-red spots caused by bleeding within the skin or mucous membranes
Purpura Condition characterized by hemorrhages into the skin, mucous membranes, internal organs, and other tissues. Thrombocytopenic purpura is caused by a deficiency in platelets
Formed Elements Cellular components of blood
Plasma Liquid portion of blood
Serum Fraction of the plasma that remains after blood coagulation. It's the equivalent of plasma without its clotting factors.
Electrolyte Substance that separates into charged particles (ions) in a solution (Salt)
Hemoglobin Iron-containing pigment in red blood cells that transports oxygen
Leukemia Malignant overgrowth of immature white blood cells. May be chronic or acute. -May affect bone marrow (Myelogenous Leukemia) -May affect lymphoid tissue (Lymphotic Leukemia)
Urticaria Skin reaction consisting of round, raised eruptions (Wheals) with itching (Hives)
