Define diaphragm divides the ventral cavitiy into two parts: the upper thoracic and lower abdominopelvic cavities.
List the abdominopelvic regions. Hypochondriac, epigastric, hypochondriac, lumbar, umbilical, lumbar, inguinal, hypogastric and inguinal region.
Define isotonic solution. If a red blood cell is put into blood plasma, which has the same number of sodium particles as a red blood cell, the osmotic pressures of the red blood cell and that of the plasma are the same, representing an isotonic solution.
Define osmotic pressure. Pressure exerted by the water molecules within the casing at equilibrium.
Describe the properties of the cell membrane. The cell membrane or plasma membrane is composed of a double phospholipid layer with proteins embedded in the layer.
What type of membrane is the cell membrane? Selective Semipermeable (Regulates transport of substances into and out of the cell. Some get in or out others do not.

Describe the properties of synovial fluid? Line joint cavities and bursa (small cushions sacs). Produces synovial fluid. Permits free movement of the joints.

Describe the action of smooth muscle tissue and describe its location in the body? Involuntary. Visceral located within organs. (Stomach and intestins contracts in waves peristalsis. Appearance non-striated.
Describe and name the outer covering of the heart? Pericardial membrane protects the heart.
Describe the location and function of nerve tissue. Located in the brain, spinal cord peripheral. Function conducts impluses to and from all part of the body.
How do neurons communicate with each other? Neuron (nerve cells) carry impulses away from the cell body. (Axom) cell body contains the nucleus.
What are dendrites? Portion of neurons that carries impulses toward the cell body.
What is the basic unit of life, the structure and function of all living things? the cell
Describe the function of the integumentary system Helps regulate body temperature establishes a barrier between the body and environment eliminates waste, synthesizes, Vitamin D; contains receptors for temperature, pressure and pain.
Define Anatomy Anatomy studies the shape and structure of an organism's body and the relationship of one body part to another.
Define Physiology? Studies the function of each body part and how the functions of the various body part coordinate to form a complete living organism.
What tissue stores energy? Adipose (loose) Tissue. Stores fat potential energy source when glucose is depleted.
What is collagen and where is it found The fibers are bundles of strong flexible, white fibrous protein.
List examples of connective tissue adipose, areolas, dense, fibrous tissue, osseous, cartilage, blood, and lymph.

Hypotonic Solution Lower solute means solution water leaves solution to enter cell to dilute cell fluids.
Hypertonic solution Higher Solution means water leaves to dilute solution.
Define Active Transport Molecules move across membrane from low concentration. Against a concentration gradient to high concentration.
Describe the function of lysosomes? Contains digestive enzymes that will digest protein.
Properties of synovial fluid? Lines joint cavities. Synovial membranes secrete synovial fluid which prevents friction inside the joint cavitiy.
Describe the function of blood? Transport nutrient and oxygen molecules to cells, and metabolic wastes away from cells (can be considered as a liquid tissue). Contains cells that function in the body's defense and in blood clotting.
Describe the action of smooth muscle tissue and describe its location in the body Smooth muscle is nonstriated because it lacks the striations (bands) of skeletal muscles; its movement is involuntary. It makes up the walls of the disgestive tract, genitourinary tracts, respiratiory tract, blood vessels, and lymphatic vessels.
List the sites covered with connective tissue? Adipose, areolar (loose) tissue, Dense fibrous tissue, supportive tissue, supportive tissue, vascular tissue.
Describe and name the outer covering of the heart? The pericardial membrane lines the heart cavity and protects the heart. The fluid is called pericardial fluid.
Describe the location and the function of nerve tissue? Nerve cells have the ability to react to stimuli 1)Irritability or 2) Conductivity. They are found in the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. Neurons have branches through which various parts of the body are connected and their activities coordinated.
