Essential nutrients nutrients that we must obtain from our diet
Nutritional genomics the science of how nutrients affect the activities of genes
independent research independent from the funding source and is much less biased. the government uses this
Animal studies are studies done on animals in a lab
Cell culture studies are studies done on human tissue
epidemilogical studies studies done on a large group of people to see if there is a correlation between dietary habits and illness
abstract research reports summaries on full text reports
RDV recomended diatary allowence the ammount needed to prevent defiencies
AI Adequate intake: a value used as a guide when there is no RDA
UL tolerable upper intake level: highest amount of intake assumed to be safe
RDV recommended daily value: the amount of nutrients needed to stay healthy
insulin produced by the pancreas to transport sugar into cells.
Glycolysis digests carbs into internal energy
Electron transport system changes the water and fluids that we drink into water for our cells
The liver/pancreas system digests lipids chemicals and sugars
the intestinal/ lymph system excretes lipids, proteins, and carbs
peristalsis transportation through the small intestine
Gastrin stimulates digestive fluids in the stomach
secretin stimulates intestinal fluids
Cholecystokinin stimulates the pancreas and gallbladder action

The glycemic index classifies foods as to how fast they convert to sugar in the body.

IBS irritable bowel syndrome: Alternating constipation and diarrhea
Good bacteria counteracts bad bacteria. Peppers, vit c decrease bad bacteria
