What is the action? 1. Increase excretion of sodium and water by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal tubule
What are the uses? 1. Treatment of hypertension, 2. Treatment of edema due to renal dysfunction, 3. Adjunct in treating edema due to CHF, hepatic cirrhosis, corticosteroid/estrogen therapy
What are the Major side effects & adverse reactions of the CNS? dizziness, vertigo, paresthesia, HA
What are the Major side effects & adverse reactions of the EENT? blurred vision
What are the Major side effects & adverse reactions of the GI? anorexia, N/V and diarrhea, jaundice
What are the Hem. major side effects & adverse reactions? agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia
What are the Major side effects & adverse reactions of the Int.? urticaria, photosensitivity
What are the Major side effects & adverse reactions of the met? hypokalemia, glycosuria, hyperglycemia

What are the PHARMACOKINETICS? metabolized in the liver, excreted in the kidney
What are the interactions? 1. Corticosteroids – additive effect 2. Diazoxide – additive effect 3. Digoxin – hypokalemia 4. Lithium - ↑ Lithium toxicity 5. NSAIDS - ↓ Diuretic activity
