Explain the Facial Expression form of Nonverbal Communication Most expressive & revealing contracdict or suppress true emotions, avoid showing showck, disgust, dismay
Explain the Eye Contact form of Nonverbal Communication Be assertive but don't stare
Explain the Space & Territoriality form of Nonverbal Communication If space becomes threatened, ppl can respond defensively and can communicate less effectively. You must freaquently move into pt personal space, so communication what you are doing
Explain Symbolic Communication Use of image, objects, or action to rep/convey meaning. EX: turning pillows, offering cold cloths, giving them water
Define how Perceptions can influence communication Personal views of things happening around them
Define how Values can influence communication What one reasures or highly regards, don't let pts values or your values interfere c how you care or communicate c pt

Describe the Preinteraction Phase of Nurse-Client Helping Relationships Before meeting the pt, Review data, Talk to other caregivers, Anticipate health concerns, Identify a location & setting that will be comfortable, Plan enough time
Describe the Orientation Phase of Nurse-Client Helping Relationships When you meet Pt to get to know one another: Set the tone, Expect pt to test your competence & commitment, Prioritize pt probs & identify pt goals, Form contracts, Let pt know when you will terminate relationship
