Theoretical Base of Nursing and Nursing Practice

TermDefinition
Sister Callista Roy Adaptation Model is based on the human being an adaptive open system.
Rosemarie Rizzo Parse Human Becoming Theory considers man’s reality is given meaning through lived experiences.
Betty Newman Model focuses on holistic concepts and open systems.
Jean Watson Human Caring Theory is based on caring for the patient or family while the nurse functions to preserve dignity and wholeness in health, or while the patient is peacefully dying.
Virginia Henderson Theory focuses on helping patients become as independent as possible. By addressing the patient’s pain, the patient will be able to ambulate and more quickly become independent.
Hildegard Peplau l Theory is widely used in psychiatric nursing and focuses on interpersonal relationships.
Florence Nightingale Theory stated that the imbalance between the patient and the environment decreased the capacity for health.
Dorothea Orem Theory focused on guiding, teaching, and supporting patients in learning self-care to promote their own abilities.
Imogene King theory focused on the importance of interactions between nurses and patients, not on teaching patients procedures.
Martha Rogers ’ Science of Unitary Human Beings Model was about health and illness being a part of the same continuum.
Unfreezing The first step of Lewin’s Change Theory is overcoming inertia and changing the mind-set. During this time, the patient may seem uninterested until the patient’s mind-set changes.
Moving the second stage of Lewin’s Change Theory, which is a time of transition and confusion.
Refreezing The third step of Lewin’s Change Theory occurs when change is completed, reinforced, and accepted.
Rosenstock Belief Model focuses on possible reasons why a patient may not comply with recommended health promotion behaviors.
Erikson Theory of Development and Socialization focuses on age groups and on individuals interacting within their world
