05 GEOGRAFÍA URBANA

Las ciudades españolas

TermDefinition
Ciudad Núcleo de población con más de 10.000 habitantes
Espacio urbano Espacio edificado de carácter continuo con una densidad de población superior a 150 habitantes por kilómetro cuadrado y en el que predominan las actividades de los sectores secundario y terciario.
Espacio rururbano Espacio que comparte características de los espacios urbanos y de los espacios rurales. Son núcleos de población con un número de habitantes entre 5.000 y 10.000.
Proceso de urbanización Proceso de concentración de la población y de las actividades económicas en las ciudades.
Emplazamiento de una ciudad Lugar concreto en el que se sitúa una ciudad. Ejemplo: junto a un río.
Situación de una ciudad Es la posición que la ciudad ocupa en relación a su entorno territorial.
Ensanche Zona de la ciudad fuera de la zona amurallada cuya ampliación es consecuencia de un urbanismo planificado en la que suele utilizarse el plano ortogonal o en cuadrícula.
Zona suburbana Zona residencial que rodea al centro urbano. Suele aplicarse a los barrios pobres o degradados alejados del centro de la ciudad.
Periferia urbana Es la zona de la ciudad más alejada del centro urbano. Incluye la zona residencial (urbanizaciones) , la zona industrial (polígonos) y la zona comercial (centros comerciales).
Área metropolitana Espacio urbano en el que una gran ciudad, en su crecimiento ha ido absorbiendo localidades limítrofes, conectadas a la metrópoli por una densa red de transportes.
Conurbación Espacio urbano resultado del crecimiento de dos o más grandes ciudades que acaban formando un espacio continuo. Cada ciudad mantiene su independencia administrativa.
