Economic impacts of oil extraction Provides lots of jobs and brings a lot of money into the economy but a fall in the price of oil could cause a rise in unemployment
Social impacts of oil extraction -High standard of living -Modern schools, hospitals and other services
Consequences of non-renewable energy? Acid rain
What is acid rain? Acid rain is a consequence of when acidic gases are released into the atmosphere and the gases dissolve into the rain water to form acid rain
How is acid rain harmful to the environment? Acid rain: -Kills wildlife -Pollutes rivers -Erodes stonework
What is solar energy? Solar energy uses the suns heat and light and converts it to energy
Advantages of solar energy -Renewable -No waste product -Technology is cheap and easy to install
Disadvantages of solar energy -Not possible at night -Weather dependent
Environmental impacts of solar energy -Eliminate the use of oil/gas boiler -Lowers C02 emissions -Generates clean energy
Economic impacts of solar energy -Can lower electricity bills -Create employment
What is wind power? Wind power is the use of airflow through wind turbines to power generators to create eletricity
What is geothermal energy? Geothermal energy is heat energy generated and stored by the earth
What is biomass energy? Biomass energy is the burning of waste wood or vegetable products
