What is the normal Production flow of urine? 800 to 2000 mL per day
What is a supra-pubic catheter? Surgically inserted through abdominal wall into bladder
What size foley for children? 6, 8 or 10
What size foley for grown females 14 or 16
What size foley for grown males? 14, 16 or 18
What is a condom cath? An external catheter for males, applied over the penis and attached to a drainage tubing/bag
When you remove an indwelling foley, when should you notify the nurse if the patient does not urinate? After 4 hours
What is a Coude catheter and what is it used for? A special cath used for males with enlarged prostate glands. It must be inserted by a Physician or a specially trained RN.
What is a straight cath and what is it used for? A stright cath is used for obtaining a sterile urine speciman
How much urine is needed for a specimen? 30-50 mL
How far do you insert a catheter into a male? 6-7 inches; after reach urine flow, + 2-3 inches
How far do you insert a catheter into a female? 1-3 inches; until reach urine flow, + 2-3 inches
What is a Speci-cath? Specimen cath collecter; connects straight from cath to speciman container cup.
What do you do if you insert a foley cath into the vagina? Leave it, restart with another kit.
What do you do if a male patient becomes erect while inserting a foley cath? Stop, provide privacy, tell him when you're coming back and come back later
What is the prostate? A gland that secretes fluid in semen
What are the essential nutrients? Proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals, vitamins and water
What are the six essential nutrients for? Supply heat and energy build and repair body tissue regulate body functions
What are proteins for? make new cells and rebuild tissue
What are carbohydrates for? Body uses them to produce heat and energy
What are fats for? Extra energy stored as this to produce heat and energy
What are minerals for? help build body tissues (specifically bones and teeth)
What are vitamins for? regulates body
What is water for? The function of water include digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients, and maintenance of body temperature
How does culture affect diets? Foods are restricted/encouraged; how things are prepared is looked at etc.
