Cordillera a long series of mountain ranges
Endorheic watersheds a closed drainage basin that retains water and allows no outflow to other external bodies of water, such as rivers or oceans
Continental Divide the crest dividing North America’s major river systems into those flowing eastward and those flowing westward
Orographic effect Cooling effect that occurs when air is forced to rise over a mountain, resulting in a wetter windward side and a drier
Rain shadow a drier area on the leeward side of a mountain range
Glaciers Thick masses of ice, including great ice sheets and bodies of ice that flow down mountains like slow rivers
Piedmont a wide area of rolling hills at or near the foot of a mountain region
Fall line a natural boundary between two landform regions with different elevations marked by rapids and waterfalls
Manifest Destiny the imperialistic 19th century view that America was destined to expand across the North American continent
Separatism the belief that certain parts of a country should be independent
NAFTA implemented in order to promote trade between the U.S., Canada, & Mexico. The agreement eliminated most tariffs on trade between them
GDP total monetary or market value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country's borders in a specific time period
Infrastructure basic physical systems of a business, region, or nation and how they are connected in that nation
Export send goods or services to another country for sale
Import bring goods or services into a country from abroad for sale
