The leading cause of death in persons between the ages of 45 and 64 years are: | heart disease,cancer(primary lung,breast, and colorectal stroke,accidental injuries, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. |

Nursing Care of the older adult- | You cant base everything on the fact that the person is old.You have to go by the individual because a lot of old people are in good health because of taking care of themselves. |

Three common conditions affect cognition in older adults: | Delirium,dementia, and depression. |
Delirium | Acute confusion state-It is potentially reversible cognitive impairment that is often due to physiological causes |
Causes of Delirium: | electrolyte imbalance,hypoglycemia,infection and hemmorahge and sometimes very slight body temperature alterations in older adults. |
Dementia | Generalized Impairment of intelectual functioning,which interferes with social and occupational functioning.Cognitive function Impairment leads to a decline in the ability to perform basic and instrumental activities of daily activities. |
Dementia differs from delirium in that: | it is a gradual,progressive,irreversible dysfunction |
Alzheimer's Disease | Is the most common form of dementia |
Alzheimer's Disease | Is a progressive loss of memory(amnesia),loss of ability to recognize objects(agnosia,loss of ability to perform familiar task(apraxia) and loss of language skills.(aphasia) |
