What ARE the standards of practice? Accountability, continuing competency, ethics, knowledge, application of knowledge, leadership, professional relationships and relationships
What is the RNAO? (Registered nurses association of ontario) Supports nurses, healthcare, education.
What is the Nursing Code of Ethics? Providing safe, compassionate competent care, health promotion, informed decisionmaking, honouring dignity, maintaining confidentiality, promoting justice, accountability.
What is an occupation? Employment, a career, usually don't need much education.
What is a profession? A career requiring specialized education that's primary focus is serving the public.
What are the principles of ethical decision making? Justice (be fair), nonmaleficence (do no harm), autonomy (let client make decisions), beneficence (do good)
What is the role of the CNO? Regulation of nurses and protecting the public
What is the role of the CNA? Voice of nurses across Canada, speaks for nurses by nurses

What are the 2 methods of research? Qualitative and quantitative
What are some qualities of a qualitative paradigm? Emic perspective, relativist, small sample sizes, info from narrative descriptions, goal to gain in depth perspectives and experiences
What are some qualities of a quantitative paradigm? Etic perspective, info from raw stats and numbers, realist, goal is observation and examination, large sample sizes, data collected through surveys, comparison, checklists, audits
What is phenomenology? Finding the meaning in experiences
What is the grounded theory? A theory related to social processes
What is ethnography? The understanding of culture and worldviews
What are the 3 levels of critical thinking? Basic (follow process, no questioning), Complex (beginning to question practice and explore other options), Commitment (Regular practice and second nature)
What are the characteristics of Critical Thinkers? curious, insightful, truth-seeking, creative, open-minded, confident, systematic
What differentiates thinking from Critical Thinking? Thinking requires no effort, CT is purposeful.
