Reflects how the body responds to stressors through eh alarm reaction, the resistance stage, and the exhaustion stage. general adaptation syndrome
Hormones that are secreted from the hypothalamus. endorphins
Hormones that act on the mind like morphine and opiates, and they produce a sense of well-being and reduce pain. endorphins
Rising hormone levels result in an increased blood volume, blood glucose levels, epinephrine and norepinephrine amounts, heart rate, blood flow to muscles, oxygen intake, and mental alertness; also pupils dilate. alarm reaction
The body stabilizes and responds in an opposite manner to the alarm reaction; hormone levels, heart rate, blood pressure, and cardiac output return to normal, and the body repairs any damage that occurred. resistance stage
Occurs when the body is no longer able to resist the effects of the stressor and the struggle maintain adaptation drains all available energy. exhaustion stage
