Types of erosion
Definitions of: Attrition, Abrasion, Solution & Hydraulic Action
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Attrition | Rocks in water get carried by the river and smash into each other and break down to smaller pieces. Over time, they get even smaller & get reduced to fine particles called silt. |
Abrasion | The river carries stones, which collide with the land (banks) and wear them away |
Solution | Acids in water slowly dissolve rocks and stones that are carried in the river. |
Hydraulic Action | The power of water weakens and wears away the soil and the rocks as it hits them. |
