Basin | an area of land drained by a given river and its branches; area of land surrounded by land of higher elevation. |
Lake | a sizeable inland body of water. |
Canyon | a deep and narrow valley with steep walls. |
Mountain Range | a series of connected mountains. |

bay | part of a large body of water extends into a shore line, generally smaller than a gulf. |

cape | a point of land that extends into a river, lake , or ocean. |
peninsula | a body of land jutting into a lake or ocean surrounded on 3 sides by water. |
channel | wide strait or waterway between 2 landmasses that lie close to each other, deep part of a river or other waterway. |
delta | flat low-liying land built up from soil carried downstream by a river and deposited at its mouth. |
glaicer | large,thick body of slow moving ice. |
gulf | part of a large body of water that extends into a shore line generally and deeply more indented than a bay. |
isthmus | a narrow stretch of land connecting 2 larger land areas. |
island | an area smaller than a continent completely surrounded by water. |
strait | narrow stretch of water joining 2 larger bodies of water. |
plateau | an area of flat rolling land at a high elevation about 300ft to 3,000 ft. |
mouth of a river | place whwre a stream or river flows into a large body of water. |
source of a river | place where a river or stream beging, often in highlands. |
tributary | small river or stream that flows into a large river or stream; a branch of a river |
valley | area of low liying land usually betwenn hills or mountains. |
