Adverse Effects of class II anti-arrhythmic drugs bronchospasm, dyspnea, CNS effects, hypotension, bradycardia, AV block, arrhythmias, alterations in peripheral perfusion, GI problems, loss of libido, decreased exercise tolerance, alterations in blood glucose levels
Contraindications of class II anti-arrhythmic drugs Sinus bradycardia, AV block, cariogenic shock, HF, asthma, respiratory depression, pregnancy and lactation
IV lidocaine (Class Ib anti-arrhythmias) Indications management of acute ventricular arrhythmias during cardiac surgery or MI
IV lidocaine Actions decreases depolarization, decreasing automaticity or the ventricular cells, increases ventricular fibrillation threshold
IV lidocaine Contraindications and Cautions Allergy, HF, hypotension, bradycardia or heart block unless an artificial pacemaker, shock, electrolyte disturbances, caution should be used in pts with renal or hepatic dysfunction, cross placenta & enter breast milk, should not be used during lactation
IV lidocaine Adverse Effects Dizziness, light-headedness, fatigue, arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, nausea, vomiting, anaphylactoid reactions, hypotension, vasodilation

IV Amiodarone Actions Acts directly on heart muscle cells to prolong depolarization and the refectory period, increasing the threshold for ventricular fibrillation, also acts on peripheral smooth muscle to decrease peripheral resistance
IV Amiodarone Adverse Effects Malaise, fatigue, dizziness, HF, cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, constipation, nausea, vomiting, hepatoxicity, pulmonary toxicity, corneal micro deposits, vision changes
Class III anti-arrhythmic drug actions Beta-adrenergic blockers that block beta-receptors causing a depression of phase 4 of the action potential
