QuestionAnswer
Name the countries located in the Indian subcontinent. Pakistan, Bangladesh and Bhutan are all on the Indian subcontinent.
Explain the difference between the south-west monsoon and the retreating monsoon. The South-West monsoon is in mid June to September. -Low pressure develops, bringing rain bringing south-West over Indian Ocean. -Flooding occurs in this season. -Tropical cyclones are common, wind speeds 160km per hour.
Explain the Retreating Monsoon. The retreating Monsoon is when high pressure develops over land. -During October to February, a dry, cool season.-High pressure brings a dry wind from North-East across Indian interior. -Rain does occur in South-East winds has moisture as cross Bengal Bay
Briefly explain the how soils can impact an area in India. Most common soils are Tropical Red Soils, or Laterite soils. -Soils heavily leached from monsoon rains. -All minerals washed out. -
Explain why Tropical red soils have a reddish colour -Iron gives the soil its reddish colour, when the soil is leached it washes the nutrients down.
Explain how Black soils are formed. Black Soils are common in Deaccan area. -Formed from weathered Basalt rock found area after volcanic eruptions.
