Physiographic features of China

Yangtze (Yang Cee) River Longest river in China. Source - Himalayas ; Flows from western China east to the East China Sea through the port city of Shanghai (Shang - Hi)
Huang He River Also known as the Yellow River for the nutrient-rich yellow silt, or loess, that it carries to the Yellow Sea. Flows west to east from the highlands. Also known as "China's Sorrow" because of its long history of catastrophic floods that's killed millions
Lancang River Also known as the Mekong River, flowing southeast from the Tibetan Plateau through southern China, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, into the South China Sea
Zhujiang River Largest river in southern China. Also known as the Pearl River. China's 3rd longest river, and 2nd by volume to the Yangtze. Pearl River Basin, has a network of rivers, fertile soil, abundant natural resources and a dense population.
Himalayas World's highest mountain range; extending between southern China (Tibet region) and India, and through Pakistan, Nepal, and Bhutan.
Tian Shan Mountains Also known as the "Celestial mountains" in Chinese is one of the largest continuous mountain ranges in the world, extending approximately 1,550 miles roughly east-west across Central Asia
Kunlun Mountains One of the longest mountain chains in western China, located between the Himalayas to the South and the Tian Shan in he North.
Gobi Desert Desert region, stretching 500,000 square miles, that covers parts of northern and northwestern China, and southern Mongolia
Taklamakan Desert The largest desert in China . Also known as "the Place of Ruins" or "the Sea of Death"., because it gets less than 1cm of rain/year. Located between the Tian Shan and Kunlun Mountains in NW China.
Han Core Densely populated area in Eastern China made up primarily of China's largest ethnic group.
Manchuria Region bordering Korea in Northeast China; rich in resources. It was settled by the Han people before China.
Inner Mongolia Large region stretched across the northern edge of China; consists of wide, grass meadowlands (steppes), forests and mountains.
Xinjiang Territory in northwest China, is a vast region of deserts and mountains. It's home to many ethnic minority groups, including the Turkic Uyghur people. The ancient Silk Road trade route linking China and the Middle East passed through it.
Altai Mountains. Mountain range in Central and East Asia, where Russia, China, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan come together,
Tibetan Plateau Highest and largest region in the world north of the Himalayas, under Chinese control since 1947
Brahmaputra River Flows from the the Himalayas in Tibet in southern China, then through India and Bangladesh, on its way to the Bay of Bengal. Important source for irrigation and transportation.
