Define Safety & Error Safety is "freedome from accidental injury" and error is the failure of a planned action to be completed as intended or the use of a wrong plan to achieve an aim.

What is the goal of a client with safety risks? The goal is to prevent/avoid accidents and injuries. Clients may need to change their behavior or modify their environment.
What are nursing interventions for a client with safety risks? Identify environmental hazards in the home and community. Demonstrate safety practices, Experience a decrease in the frequency/severity of the injury and demonstrate safe child-rearing practices or lifestyle practices.
How can we assure the safety of all clients? Observe or predict potentially harmful situations and client education are important
What are some safety measures for infants and newborns? Ensure in a car seat, never leave them unattended on a raised surface, check the temp of the bath water prior, hold infant upright while feeding, check crib for regulations,appropriate toys, cover outlets & cords out of reach, lock away meds/poision
What are some safety measures for toddlers? Carseat, teach not to put objects in mouth, keep objects with sharp edges out of reach, hot pots with handles inward, poisions/meds locked up, supervise in tub, fence in pools, teach not to run/play in streets, cover outlets.
What are some safety measures for preschoolers? Do not allow to run with candy in mouth, teach not to put small objects in mouth/nose/ears, always supervise & begin safety education, teach to play in 'safe areas', teach to avoid strangers & to keep parents aware of their whereabouts .
What are some safety measures for School aged children? Teach safety rules for sports (helmet, life jacket, knee pads etc), supervise sports, teach to obey traffic rules, teach to stay away from firearms/works, keep firearms unloaded & out of reach, teach the effects/dangers of smoking/drug use/alcohol use.
What are some safety measures for adolescents? Have them attend drivers ed, encourage

What is the leading cause of death amongst middle aged adults? Moter vehicle accidents.
The incidence of suicide is increasing in what age group? The elderly.
How can I prevent falls in the hospital? Explain call system & make sure they have the button, non-skid footwear, asses ability to transfer/ambulate and provide assistive devices, encourage client to call for help, place tables nearby, keep beds in lowest position,environment clean, bed alarm.
