| Advance Directives | Written document,recognized by state law, provides directions concerning the care when a person is unable to make his or her own treatment choice |
| Advocacy | Acting on behalf of the client, and protecting the client's rights to make his/her own decisions |
| Consent | Voluntary act by which a person agrees to allow someone else do something |
| Ethics | Concerns the distinction between right and wrong on the basis of a body of knowledge, not just on the basis of opinions |
| Informed Consent | The client understands the reason for the purpose intervention, with benefits and risks, and agrees to the treatment by signing a consent form |
| Malpractice | Failure to meet the standards of acceptable care, which results in harm to another person |
| Negligence | Failure to provide care that reasonable person would ordinarily use in a similar circumstance |
| Client's Bill Of Rights | Rights and responsibilities of clients receiving care |
| Values | Beliefs and attitudes that may influence behavior and the process of decision making |
| Autonomy | Respect for person's right to self determination |
| Nonmalficence | The obligation to do or cause no harm to another |
| Beneficence | Duty to do good to others and to maintain a balance between benefits and harms |
| Veracity | obligation to tell the truth |
| Fidelity | Duty to do what one has promised |
| Good Samaritan Law | - Encourages health care professionals to assist in an emergency situations without fear of being sued. - Immunity from suit if care not negligence and does not receieve any compensation |
| Assult | Victim fears and believes harm will occur as a result of a threat |
| Battery | An intention to touch another persons body without any consent from the person |
| False Imprisonment | A device or to stop a person from leaving or moving used without appropriate clinical needs |
| Invasion Of Privacy | Violating confidentiality, intruding on family matters, sharing information to unauthorized persons |
| Defamation | False communication or or a careless Disregard to the truth that can damage someone's reputation, either writing (libel) or verbally (slander) |
| Fraud | Deliberate deception intended to produce unlawful gains |
