Concepts Of Learning

Learning Act or process of acquiring knowledge
Discovery Learning Allowing the learner to find answers for his or herself
Learners responsibilities self directed,problem based learning, simulation, case studies, imagery and role play
Facilitators responsibilities lecture & questioning, demonstration, group discussion, clinical logs or journals
Four levels of thinking knowledge, Analysis, Comprehension, Application
Simulation Students actively participate in scenarios that represent actual events
Knowledge Basic thinking used for memorization and to remember or repeat information you've learned
Group discussion Exchange of ideas between students
Application Take what you have learned in one situation and apply it to an entirely different one
Analysis Take complex information, break it into smaller appropriate parts, organize and prioritize it
Clinical logs or Journals Written or verbal record of student perceptions of class and clinical experiences
Comprehension Prove you can actually not only repeat information, but understand it and explain it in your own words
Demonstration Physical display of concept
Lecture and questioning Verbal inquiry of presentation of information by instructor
Case studies scenarios are based on real-life nursing situation with clients help students use critical thinking skills and problem-solving techniques
Naturalist intelligence you are at your best when you are outdoors
verbal/linguistic intelligence you focus on language, is format, and the use of words
Intrapersonal intelligence you enjoy working on your own and are self-motivated
Logical/mathematical intelligence you love to think sequentially and reason it out
Auditory intelligence you do well with information you hear
Visual/Spatial Intelligence you prefer to see what you wish to learn
Interpersonal intelligence you've never met a stranger
Kinesthetic/tactile intelligence you learn by doing
Acronyms A memory cue for a word or phrase formed by initial letters of words to remember
Loci System A visualization technique in which you associate each thing to be remembered with a familiar location
Rhymes An Auditory cue in which words or images of the information to be learned are linked with corresponding sounds or rhythms
Visualizing A technique that involves making a mind picture of the information to be learned
Concept Map This is another way of visualizing information, but it hooks together related information for the brain.
