| nitrazine test | aka fern test, performed if it is not clear if the membrances have ruptured. nitrazine is a ph paper that turns dark blue/ green |
| nuchal cord | when the fetal cord is around the neck, or there is an inadequate amniotic fluid to cushion it well. |
| ophthalamia neonatorum | caused by nisseria gonorrhoea,erythromycin is placed in the eyes of the new born 1 hour after birth. |
| station | describes the level of the presenting part (usually the head)in the pelvis |
| suture | strong connective tisue the separates the bones of the newborns head |
| uteroplacental insufficiency | this is when the placenta is not delivering enough oxygen to the fetus and causes late decelerations |
| VBAC | vaginal birth after cesarean section |
