Hyponatremia A condition in which the sodium level is below normal (less than 135mEq/L)
Hypernatremia The serum level of sodium is elevated to above 145 mEq/L
Hyperkalemia A serum plasma level of potassium above 5.5 mEq/L
Acidosis Blood ph below normal (less than 7.35)
Alkalosis Blood ph above normal (greater than 7.45)
Metabolic Acidosis A clinical disturbance charcterized by a low ph and a high plasma HC03
Metabolic Alkalosis A clinical disturbance characterized by a high ph and hlasma HC03 level
Osmosis The movement of water from a lower comcentration to a higher concentration across a semipermeable membrane
Diffusion The passage between the molecules of another to form a mixture of the two substances
Phlebitis Inflammation of a vein associated with chemical irritation, or bacterial infection
Active Transport The passage of a substance across a cell membrance by an energy consuming process that permits diffusion to take place
Fluid Volume Deficit 'Dehydration' it may be cause by an actual decrease in body water, excessive fluid loss or inadequate fluid intake
Fluid Volume Excess Is always secondary to an increase in total body sodium content, which causes total body water increase
Isotinic Solution A solution with the same osmolarity as plasma
Hypotonic solution A soluton with an osmolarity lower than that of plasma
Hypertonec solution A solution with an osmolarity higher than that of plasma
Infiltration Process of seepage or diffusion of IV flueds into tissue
Estravasation Escape of fluid from a vessel into the surrounding tissue
primary Set/Standard Set Available in micro/macro drip has 1,2,or3 access ports
Secondary Set Piggy back set and volum controll set
pH Hydrogen ion (H+) concentration of that fluid/solution
Tort Private wrong or act of omission results in civil action by the harmed preson (intentional or unintentional)
Rule of Liability Every one is liable for their own wrong doing (med errors, administation of IV fluids, Knosledge re:IV fluid, medication, and techniques
Breach of Duty Failure to observe, intervene (6 Rights of Med. Administration)
Incident Reports Medicanion errors, mislabeling, misreading policy or procedure fon followed
Hyperkerkalcmia Serum potassium levels above 5.5
