Question | Answer |
---|---|
Hyponatremia | A condition in which the sodium level is below normal (less than 135mEq/L) |
Hypernatremia | The serum level of sodium is elevated to above 145 mEq/L |
Hyperkalemia | A serum plasma level of potassium above 5.5 mEq/L |
Acidosis | Blood ph below normal (less than 7.35) |
Alkalosis | Blood ph above normal (greater than 7.45) |
Metabolic Acidosis | A clinical disturbance charcterized by a low ph and a high plasma HC03 |
Metabolic Alkalosis | A clinical disturbance characterized by a high ph and hlasma HC03 level |
Osmosis | The movement of water from a lower comcentration to a higher concentration across a semipermeable membrane |
Diffusion | The passage between the molecules of another to form a mixture of the two substances |
Phlebitis | Inflammation of a vein associated with chemical irritation, or bacterial infection |
Active Transport | The passage of a substance across a cell membrance by an energy consuming process that permits diffusion to take place |
Fluid Volume Deficit | 'Dehydration' it may be cause by an actual decrease in body water, excessive fluid loss or inadequate fluid intake |
Fluid Volume Excess | Is always secondary to an increase in total body sodium content, which causes total body water increase |
Isotinic Solution | A solution with the same osmolarity as plasma |
Hypotonic solution | A soluton with an osmolarity lower than that of plasma |
Hypertonec solution | A solution with an osmolarity higher than that of plasma |
Infiltration | Process of seepage or diffusion of IV flueds into tissue |
Estravasation | Escape of fluid from a vessel into the surrounding tissue |
primary Set/Standard Set | Available in micro/macro drip has 1,2,or3 access ports |
Secondary Set | Piggy back set and volum controll set |
pH | Hydrogen ion (H+) concentration of that fluid/solution |
Tort | Private wrong or act of omission results in civil action by the harmed preson (intentional or unintentional) |
Rule of Liability | Every one is liable for their own wrong doing (med errors, administation of IV fluids, Knosledge re:IV fluid, medication, and techniques |
Breach of Duty | Failure to observe, intervene (6 Rights of Med. Administration) |
Incident Reports | Medicanion errors, mislabeling, misreading policy or procedure fon followed |
Hyperkerkalcmia | Serum potassium levels above 5.5 |
