What are the six Ps? Pain, Pulses, Polar, Pallor, Paralysis, Parasthesia
What is osteomyelitis? Infection of the bone.
What is a DXA scan? Scan that determines variations in bone mass. Normal is 1. Anything greater than 2.5 deviations is considered osteoporosis
What is a T score the score of the DXA scan. Normal is 1 to -1. Osteopenia is -1 to -2.5. Osteoporosis is -2.5 and greater.
How much calcium should a person take? Men/Premenopausal females - 1000mg / day
How much sunlight should a person get to have sufficient Vitamin D? 10-15 minutes 3 times a week - Arms and face (Unprotected)
What does RICE stand for? Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation
What is a comminuted fracture? Bone is fragmented.
What is a displaced fracture? Bone is completely broken and is displaced to the side.
What is a greenstick fracture? Bone is broken, but not all the way through, like a green branch of a tree.
What is an impacted fracture? Fracture where bone is pushed into the other portion.
What is a longitudinal fracture? Fracture where bone is broken along the grain. More of a split than a complete break.
What is an oblique fracture? Fracture that is diagonal across the bone.
What is a pathologic fracture? Fracture that has a pathological source, rather than a trauma source. Cancer, lesion that has weakened the bone.
What is a spiral fracture? fracture that spirals around the bone. From a twisting of the bone.
What is a transverse fracture? Fracture that goes horizontally across the bone, no displacement, however.
