What are the intermediate directions? northwest, southwest, northeast, southeast
What are the cardinal directions? north, south, east, west
Describe what is found in a legend on a map? pictures or symbols that represent something else
What is a tool that you could use to figure out what direction north is? a compass rose
Describe relative location. Relative location is the location of a place in relation to another place.
What are the lines that run east and west but MEASURE north and south? latitude lines or parallels
What are the lines that run north and south, but MEASURE east and west? longitude lines or meridians
A smaller map located in the corner of a map that shows where the subject area of a map is located is called...... a locator
What is created when parallels and meridians cross across the globe? global grid
What do you measure latitude and longitude in? degrees
Absolute location is..... the exact location of something using latitude and longitude measurements
What is a map key? a list of map symbols that tells what each symbol stands for
What is the hottest point on the globe? the area along the equator
What happens when you move further away from the equator? it gets colder
Which comes first, latitude or longitude? latitude
How can you identify a historical map? It will have a date on the top from a point in the past.
What is a distribution map? A map that shows how something is spread out over a certain area.
What is a physical map? It shows natural features on the Earth, such as rivers, mountains and oceans.
What is a political map? It shows political divisions and state and local boundaries.
What is a photograph taken from above called? An aerial photograph
What is the main line of latitude called? The Equator
What is the main line of longitude called? The Prime Meridian
On a map you may see a triangle to represent a mountain. The triangle is a ___________. symbol
