the vocab for geography

reference map mapping which includes all possible valid relationships from a source system
thematic map a map or chart designed to show a particular theme with a specific geographical area.
GPS gps stands for global positioning system.it is a satilite base system used to navigate and watch the earth
GIS gis stands for geographic information system.this lets us visualize and analyze the earth
distance scale the size and scope of a certain study area.
directional indicator a compass that assists an airplane pilot in flying a predetermined course by direct
inset map More detailed (larger scale) representation of a specific area on a map
legend a explanatory caption next to a illustration.
latitude (parallels) the angular distance of something north or south of the equator
longitude (meridians) the angular distance of a place east or west of the meridian
equator the imaginary lines drawn to divide the earth into north and south hemisphere
Prime Meridian the plantets meridian adopted as the zero of longitude
northern hemisphere the hemisphere north of the equator
southern hemisphere the hemisphere south of the equator
eastern hemisphere the hemisphere that includes africa,austraila,and eurasia
