1996-issued standards that limit the restraint and seclusion use to clinically justified situations and may seek to reduce restraint use JCAHO
written orders for restraints are limited to four hours for adults, two hours for children/adolecents ages 9-17, and one hour for children under the age of 9
restraint orders must be rewritten by the physician who originally wrote the order every 24 hours
PRN orders for restraints are not acceptable
