Cell Membrane  A thin structure that surrounds both animal and plant cells, its main job is to control what enters and leaves the cell (door man).  
Cell Wall  Plants cells – the area outside the cell membrane, it is a stiff structure that helps support and protect the  
Nucleus  This organelle controls the cell, it is known as the “brain” of the cell, or mayor of the town.  
Cytoplasm  A jellylike substance that make up all the living material in a cell except the nucleus.  
Mitochondrea  Structures that are the powerhouse of the cell (produce power).  
Ribosomes  An organelle that manufactures and moves materials within a cell. They look like small dots on the Golgi bodies and float freely in the cytoplasm (cars).  
Endoplasmic Reticulm  An organelle that transports (moves) materials throughout a cell (Highway).  
Golgi Bodies  An organnelle that manufactures and moves materials within a cell (Shipping/ Fed. Ex).  
Lysosomes  An organelle that break down food molecules, waste products, and old cells (trash service).  
Vacuoles  An organelle that stores food, water, and wastes in a cell and helps get rid of wastes (warehouse).  
Chloroplasts  Plant cells have green, oval-shaped organelles that help with photosynthesis.
