chunking assignments | breaking an assignment down into smaller parts so that it doesn't seem so overwhelming |
IEP | is my individual education plan that is developed with me, my parents, and my SERT |
Fixed Mindset | the belief that I cannot get better from my mistakes; who I am cannot be changed |
Growth Mindset | The belief that I can get better; mistakes are okay because it helps me to grow my brain |
Positive vs Negative Self- Talk | The way we speak to ourselves; especially when in reaction to something. |
Avoidance Conflict Resolution Style | runs away from conflict; pretends it didn't happen; doesn't speak to the person who hurt them |
Problem Solver | Type of conflict resolution style; they work with the other person to solve the problem |
Competitor | Type of conflict resolution style; they fight physically or verbally for their side of the argument to win |
Proactive vs Reactive | A proactive person takes charge and does things to help themselves. They take responsibility for things in their life. A reactive person lets things happen to them. They blame the world (or other people for their problems). |
IEP | Individual Education Plan created by your SERT with you and your parents; it outlines things that you are good at and things you could get better at as well as things that will help you do well in classes and tests. |
SERT | Special Education Resource Teacher; this person is in the school to support you in your classes and in writing your IEP |
Perfectionist | someone who wants everything to be just right; they have a hard time starting tasks or finishing tasks because of this |
Procrastination | someone who leaves things to the last minute; they do things that are preferences rather than things that should be a priority |
Anxiety | feeling of worry and unease about an upcoming event or situation |
scribe | an accommodation where an EA or another person writes down your thoughts as you speak them outloud |
