scientific method  A systematic way of solving a problem by making observations.  
analyzing  Looking for relationships in data.  
hypothesis  An educated guess at the solution of a problem.  
controlled experiment  It attempts to look at just one factor that could help answer the original problem.  
variable  In controlled, this is the factor that is deliberately changed or altered.  
experimental group  In an experiment, the group where the variable is altered.  
control group  In an experiment, the group that experiences no change in the variable.  
qualitative data  Descriptive information not involving numbers.  
quantitative data  Measurable or numerical information.  
classifying  Separating data into groups.  
conclusion  An answer that seems to best fit the data analysis.  
verify  The process of testing the correctness of a solution.  
theory  A partially verified idea that relates a number of different observations.  
laws  A statement of a consistent pattern of phenomena in nature; a theory that has been verified through numerous experiments and observations.  
universal statements  An absolute statement using "all" or "none."  
value judgements  A decision regarding the rightness, beauty, worth, or some other immeasurable characteristics of an object or action.
