| radiant energy | electromagnetic energy that travels in vertical waves. EX. Solar and Light are sometimes called this. But, Electromagnetic waves include visible light, x-rays, and gamma rays |
| thermal energy | the internal energy in substances; it is the vibration and movement of the atoms and molecules within a substance. The faster the atoms move the more thermal energy. Usually thought of as HEAT, but is not always!!! Ex. Geothermal |
| mechanical energy | the movement of objects and substances from one place to another. Ex. Wind Energy |

| sound energy | the movement of energy through substances in longitudinal waves. |
| friction | a contact force that resists the sliding motion of two surfaces that are touching. Ex. Hands rubbed together, sanding a board, a gravel road versus a smoothly paved road |
