TermDefinition
nonmetal an element that has no metallic properties (Ex. Helium (gas) and Sulfur (solid)
halogens an element in group 17 on the periodic table. (from the Greek hals, means "salt", and -gen, means "to produce") Ex. chlorine
noble gases an element in group 18 on the periodic table (ex. helium, neon, argon, kryton, xenon, and radon)
metalloid an element that has physical and chemical properties of both metals and nonmetals. (Ex. Silcon)
semiconductor a substance that conducts electricity at high temperatures and not low temperatures. (Ex. Silcon)
insulator any material that keeps energy such electricity , heat, or cold from easily transferring through it. (From the Latin word insultatus which means "to make into an island"). (Ex. rubber/ Non. ex. Aluminum)
construct to make by combining and arranging materials and or parts. (Comes from the Latin word constructus, meaning "to heap up".)
