| Amendment | What it protects |
| 1st | freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, Petition. |
| 2nd | guarantees the right to serve in a state militia and to bear arms. |
| 3rd | that soldiers may NOT be housed in anyone's home. |
| 4th | protects us from unreasonable searches and seizures. |
| 5th | no one can be put on trial without first being indicted, or formally charger by a grand jury. NO DOUBLE JEOPARDY. |
| 6th | gives you the right to trial by jury. |
| 7th | you have the right to a trial by jury in a CIVIL case - that's a case dealing with money. |
| 8th | prohibits excessive bail or fines. Prohibits cruel and unusal punishment. |
| 9th | this is similar to the Necessary and Proper Clause, because it states that we have many other rights, even though they’re not written down. |
| 10th | powers not given to the national government are those powers of the states or the people. This amendment explains there are RESERVED powers. |
