Question | Answer |
---|---|
Class I | Sodium Channel Blockers |
Class III | Potassium Channel Blockers |
Class IV | Calcium Channel Blockers |
Sodium Channel Blockers | prevents entry of sodium into the cell during depolarization, causing a decrease in excitability and contractility |
Potassium Channel Blockers | can be used to treat supraventricular and/or ventricular arrhythmia |
Calcium Channel Blockers | decrease calcium's influx into the cardiac cell, slow AV, conduction, decrease contractility |
Class II | Beta-Blockers |
Beta-Blockers | slow the heart rate by blocking the sympathetic nervous system's beta-receptors |
Nitroglycerin | frequently used for relief of ischemic chest pain in patients with coronary vascular disease and angina |
Heparin | effective with patients suffering from deep vein thrombosis (DVT) to prevent the spread of the clot |
Antiarrhythmics | used to treat and/or prevent arrhythmias |
Anti-hypertension | treat high blood pressure |
Narcan/ Naloxone | emergency antidote for narcotics (opioids) overdose. It reverses the effects of the drug by binding to the drug receptor on the body cells |
Blood thinners medication include | Warfarin/coumadin |
beta-blockers medication include | Esmolol, Propranolol, Metoprolol and Labetalol |
Anti-hypertension medication include | hydalazine, nitroglycerin and diltiazem |
