vizier the person in charge of Ancient Egyptian government bureaucracy
chariots a horse-drawn carrier used for war that Ancient Egyptians learned from the Hyksos
hieroglyphics a complex system of writing that used pictures in Ancient Egypt
dynasty a family of rulers having the rights to rule passed down from generation to generation
Giza the city where the Great Pyramid is located
hieratic script a simplified version of hieroglyphics that uses dashes and strokes to represent the pictures
The Old Kingdom Egypt's first dynasty who are responsible for building the pyramids
The Middle Kingdom during this time in history, pharaohs were no longer considered gods
The New Kingdom during this time in history, the Hyksos were finally defeated by the Egyptians
black lands fertile lands near the Nile River
red lands cast desert on either side of the Nile River
Upper Egypt the southern part of Egypt (it was known as Upper Egypt because it is higher in elevation)
Lower Egypt the northern part of Egypt (it was much more fertile than Upper Egypt)
Ka Ancient Egyptians believed each soul had two bodies--a spiritual one and a physical one (Ka is the spiritual body)
