Lippy - Unit 2 Egypt

TermDefinition
Africa The continent that the Nile River is located on.
Nile River This physical feature was so important to the people of Egypt that most of them lived near it.
Deserts These helped to create a barrier that kept that people of Egypt protected from invaders.
Vegetation The plants of a place or region.
Mediterranean Sea This body of water was north of the Nile River, and supported trade between Egypt and the rest of the world.
Papyrus This plant was used to create the first form of paper.
North This is the direction that the Nile River flows.
Cataracts These are the steep rapids and waterfalls along the Nile River.
Sahara Desert This desert is west of the Nile River and covers the northern 1/3 of Africa.
Delta This is the triangle-shaped area north of the Nile River that has really fertile soil.
Silt When the Nile River floods, it leaves behind this really fertile soil.
Government Officials Carried out the orders of the pharaoh.
Scribes Recorded court cases.
Artisans Portrayed scenes of everyday life in paintings.
Pharaoh Was the political, religious, and military leader of Ancient Egypt.
Artisans Produced the statues, engravings, and reliefs found in Egyptian temples, tombs, and monuments.
Peasants Helped to build the pyramids.
Priests Conducted religious ceremonies.
Government Officials Collected taxes.
Priests Took care of the temple god.
Government Officials Advised the pharaoh on matters of war and national security.
Scribes Kept written records of the grain and food supply.
Peasants Worked the fields and grew the crops.
