What are the common clinical signs of rabies? behavior change, hypersalivation, depression, hind limp ataxia, and penis protrusion
How is rabies diagnosed? the animal is euthanized and the head is sent off for antibody testing
What are common signs of distemper? non-purulent nasal and ocular discharge, pneumonia, anorexia, vomiting and diarrhea, abdominal pustules, hyperkeratosis, seizures and muscle twitching, and ataxia/circling/blindness
What does Adenovirus-2 prevent? canine infectious hepatitis
What are common signs of canine infectious hepatitis? petechia, lethargy, pale mucus membranes, blue eyes, bloody diarrhea, hepatomegaly
What kind of dogs does parvovirus usually affect? young pups without antibody protection and older unvaccinated dogs
What are common signs of parvovirus? anorexia, dehydration, vomiting, and bloody diarrhea
What would you add to a bag of fluids when treating a dog with parvo? potassium and dextrose
What are 2 common non-core canine vaccines? bordetella and leptospirosis
How does an animal get infected with leptospirosis? via water supply
What are common symptoms of bordetella? irritable trachea, coughing with possible regurgitation, nasal discharge
What breeds are most affected with kennel cough? young and senior dogs
adjuvented vaccines substance is added to vaccines to enhance antigenicity
What is a drawback of adjuvented vaccines? has been associated with feline soft tissue sarcomas
What are the core feline vaccines? rabies and FVRCP
What 3 viruses are prevented with the FVRCP vaccine? Feline Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia
What are the common signs of Feline Rhinotracheitis? sneezing, conjunctivitis, purulent rhinitis, abortion, salivation, corneal ulceration
What are common signs of Calicivirus? watery nasal discharge, mild conjunctivitis, oral ulcers, acute arthritis in kittens, diarrhea
What feline disease is closely related to canine parvo? panleukopenia
What cats are more predisposed to panleukopenia? young, unvaccinated, or feral cats
What are common signs of Panleukopenia? depression, vomiting, fetid diarrhea, anorexia, and fetal death
What is an important note to owners that have a cat with rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, or panleukopenia? isolate!!
How is feline leukemia and feline AIDS transmitted? bite wounds
