Question | Answer |
Evolution | Changes in heredity features (physical characteristics) over time, usually a long time. |
Lamarck's Theory | Called the "Theory of Acquired Characteristics" -A trait a parent acquires in his/her lifetime, passed on to his/her offspring. -A trait a parent loses (because he/she doesn't use it) is NOT passed on to his/her offspring. |
Darwin's Theory | Called "Survival of the Fittest" and there are five steps. |
Darwin's Theory 1 | 1. Organisms produce more offspring than can survive. |
Darwin's Theory 2 | 2. Differences, or variations, occur among individuals of a species. |
Darwin's Theory 3 | 3. Some variations are passed to offspring. |
Darwin's Theory 4 | 4. Some variations are helpful. Individuals with helpful variations survive and reproduce better than those individuals without these variations. |
Darwin's Theory 5 | Over time, the offspring of individuals with helpful variations make up more of the population and may eventually become a separate species. |
