Commutative Property of Multiplication | Factors can be multiplied in any order and the product remains the same. |
Identity Property of Multiplication | The product of any number is that number. |
Zero Property of Multiplication | The product of any number and zero is zero. |
Distributive Property of Multiplication | Breaking apart problems into two simpler problems. (3 x 21) = (3 x 20) + (3 x 1) |
Array | a way of displaying objects in rows and columns. |
Area Model | The number of square units needed to cover the region. |
Multiplication | A mathematical operation where a number is added to itself a number of times. |
Multiple | The product of any two whole numbers. |
Row | Items in an array arranged in a horizontal line. |
Column | Items in an array arranged in a vertical line. |
Dimensions | Refers to the length, width, and height of a shape. |
Fact Family | A group of related facts using the same set of numbers. Example: 3 x 5 = 15; 5 x 3 = 15; 15 / 3 = 5; 15 / 5 = 3 |
Compatible Number | Numbers that are easy to compute mentally. |
Estimate | An approximate rather than an exact answer. |
Round | To estimate a number to the nearest ten, hundred, or thousands. |
Approximate | To estimate a number amount, or total, often rounding it off to the nearest 10 or 100. |
