Question | Answer |
Energy | What is needed to do work or cause change |
Mechanical Energy | Energy produced by a machine or moving part |
Electrical Energy | Energy produced by the movement of electons |
Light Energy | Radiant energy that our eyes can see from the visible part of the electromagnetic spectrum |
Thermal Energy | Energy that causes a transfer of heat or temperature between materals |
Sound Energy | Energy produced from vibrations that you can hear |
Potential Energy | Energy that is being stored |
Kinetic Energy | The energy of motion |
Infrared Radiation | Light energy that is invisible. Its wave lengths are longer that those of visible light |
Ultraviolet Light | Invisible light energy that has shorter wavelengths that those of visible light. |
System | A group of interacting or independent parts forming a complex whole |
Law of Conservation of Energy | Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, energy just changes form |
Energy Transformation | The change of energy from one form to another |
Conductor | A substance that allows the flow of electric charge of transfers thermal energy through matter |
Insulator | A substance that resists electric current or a material that resists the flow of heat |
Chemical Energy | A form of energy made available by the flow of electric charge through a conductor. |
Kinetic Theory of Matter | All of the particles that make up matter are constantly moving. |
Temperature | A measure of the average kinetic energy of all the particles in a an object. |
Degrees | Equally spaced units between two points. |
Thermometer | Instrument used to measure temperature. |
