Term | Definition |
Archaea | Prokaryotes that live in extreme environments. |
Producer | An organism that makes its own food. It is located at the bottom of the energy pyramid. |
Fungi | A single or multi-cellular organism with hyphae; feed on living or decaying organisms. |
Parasite | An organism that gets its nutrients from another organism. For example, tick and mosquito. |
Virus | A particle that must have a host to reproduce. It can be deadly or have a positive effect. |
Binary Fission | A method of reproduction that bacteria uses. |
Anamalia | Multicellular organisms that cannot make their own food. |
Plantae | Multicellular organisms that make their own food. |
Protista | Single or multi-cellular organisms made of eukaryotic cells; found in moist or wet surroundings; some are animal-like, some are plant-like, and some are both plant and animal like. |
Eukarya | Domain that includes Kingdoms, Animalia, Protista, Fungi, and Plantae. Each of these kingdoms has cells that have a nucleus. |
Bacteria | A domain made up of prokaryotes that usually have a cell wall and that usually reproduce by cell division. |
Heterotroph | An organism that cannot make its own food. |
Antibiotics | Medicine that attacks bacteria. |
Classification | The division of organisms into groups, or classes, based on specific characteristics. |
Taxonomy | The study of the general principles of scientific classification. |
Dichotomous Key | A detailed list of characteristics used to identify organisms. |
