Term | Definition |
Identity | An equation that is true for all values of the variable |
Distributive Property | A property that can be used to find the product of a number of a sum or diffence |
Like Terms | Terms that have the same variable parts . Constant terms are also like term |
Equivalent Equations | Two expressions that have the same values for all values of the variable |
Inverse Operations | are opposite operations that undo each other. |
Formule | An equation that relates two or more quantities |
Reciprocal | reversing a function with the opposing function |
Variable | a quantity that may change within the context of a mathematical problem or experiment |
Algebraic Expressions | s a mathematical phrase that can contain ordinary numbers, variables (like x or y) and operators (like add,subtract,multiply, and divide). |
Power | the product of multiplying a number by itself |
Exponent | a quantity representing the power to which a given number or expression is to be raised, usually expressed as a raised symbol beside the number or expression (e.g., 3 in 23 = 2 × 2 × 2). |
Base of Power | The number that is going to be raised to a power. |
Open Sentence | an equation or inequality containing one or more variables in which its truth or falsehood depends upon the values assumed by the variables in a particular instance, as the equation x + 3 = 8. |
Equation | a statement that the values of two mathematical expressions are equal (indicated by the sign =). |
Inequality | is like an equation that uses symbols for "less than"(<) and "greater than"(>) where an equation uses a symbol for "is equal to" (=). |
